At Streamline Shipping Group, we believe in the power of community – and we’re thrilled to support a cause that’s making a real difference in Malawi, one football kit at a time.
Tackling Disease with Football: The Story Behind the Kits
In many remote, rural areas of Africa, one of the biggest challenges communities face is the fight against sleeping sickness – a disease that affects the central nervous system – that, if not caught early enough, can be fatal.
For many people in these communities, fear and a lack of trust in medical professionals stop them from seeking help. That’s where initiatives like this come into play, using creative ways to bridge that gap and get people the information and services they need to stay healthy.
Walt Adamson, an infectious disease scientist from the University of Glasgow, has been working hard to change this. His solution? Football.
In Malawi, football isn’t just a game; it’s the heartbeat of the community. By organising matches, Walt and his team can bring people together and create a natural space for conversations about health, medicine, and the importance of seeking treatment.
But there’s a catch – many villages don’t have the football kits or equipment they need to play. That’s where Orkney’s generosity comes in, offering a lifeline to make these matches happen and spark those crucial conversations between health workers and the communities they serve.
How Streamline Shipping Group Is Supporting the Cause
Seeing how something as simple as a football kit can bring people together and change lives is incredible. And at Streamline Shipping Group, projects like this remind our team of how local acts of kindness can have a global impact.
By teaming up with Calum Murdoch from Orkney’s Rendall FC and Walt Adamson, we’re helping collect and ship the donated football kits from Orkney to Glasgow – ensuring the logistics run smoothly so these kits can make their way to Malawi and help spark those vital health conversations. It’s inspiring to be part of a project that’s making a real difference, one kit at a time.
Every Kit Counts – How Can You Help?
Let’s show just how powerful Orkney’s team spirit is – not just on the field but across the world. Your old football kit could be the key to unlocking a healthier, brighter future for someone in Malawi.
Walt will be making his way to Malawi on March 18, so now is the time to donate your old kits!
Donations can be made until the end of February.
Remember, every kit you donate helps get people talking, raises awareness about potentially life-threatening diseases, and could even save a life. Together, we can make a real difference for these communities.
