Serviced by way of a brand new fleet of six state-of-the-art 13.6 metre box van trailers, the Streamline name is fast becoming a familiar sight on the A9. The new express service to and from Orkney augments the company’s twice weekly container service between Aberdeen and Kirkwall, ensuring a very flexible service for Streamline customers at the best possible price.
Northern Isles Director Eddie Barclay commented “The new trailers employ twin evaporators and offer real time temperature logging linked to an online monitoring system. This means we can carry frozen, chilled and ambient goods in various configurations with confidence. The system also allows customers to check on the progress of the vehicles, to download temperature records for their own audit and compliance programmes, and more generally, to assure their end customers that the cargo is in good hands.”
While perhaps best known as the container service operator, Streamline has since 1987, grown to become Orkney’s biggest general freight transport operator with over 40 staff employed locally and some 220 across the Group’s operations in Orkney, Shetland, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Humberside. A family owned business, Streamline continues to work to support its customers through an extended range of service options.
Glasgow based Sales Director Ian Adam said “Our services to the islands are supported by dedicated and professional teams here on the mainland, who specialise variously in UK road haulage and distribution, international air and seafreight and trailer services into continental Europe. Every week we are involved in import and export activity both around the port in Aberdeen, but more generally through our international freight forwarding team in Glasgow. In a way, this new overnight service to and from Glasgow provides a natural link for key customers.”
Ian continued “The requirement for the new service arose through discussion with customers who helped identify the gap in the market. The fact that we have been able to invest in new equipment dedicated to the service, and have a schedule that is practical and reliable seems to be driving high levels of interest.”
Users of this new dedicated service have expressed satisfaction at the punctuality and the flexibility of the service combined with very competitive pricing.
Streamline offer to carry freight from a small box to a full trailer load, including temperature controlled products. For the northbound journey, there is a continuous receiving facility at their Glasgow (Bellshill) depot from 0700-1900 Monday to Friday, which connects with the first Pentland Firth crossing the next day, and onward to Kirkwall for delivery promptly following the scheduled 1100 arrival at the Hatston depot.
For exporters from Orkney, the trailer departs Kirkwall late afternoon to connect with the last sailing from St Margaret’s Hope, and arrives into Glasgow the following morning at 1000. Parcels and pallets are then fed into partner services for delivery throughout the UK mainland the following day.
Streamline also offers its own collection and distribution service from the Glasgow depot with arrangements made to suit customer requirements.
